MIXED REACTIONS ON A-ROD AND THE LIST OF 104

yankees-accept-a-rods-admissionIt’s not surprising when Curt Schilling wrote in his blog that he wanted the rest of the 104 players listed in the seized documents named. These 104 had tested positive back in 2003. Although there won’t be any punishments, the former Boston Red Sox is afraid that the public might judge the entire Major League guilty by association. Alex Rodriguez, one of baseball’s superstars, is one of those in the list.

From The Boston Globe:

Rodriguez joined Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens on an ever-growing list of stars tainted by the Steroids Era scandal. Sports Illustrated reported Saturday the Yankees slugger was one of 104 players who tested positive for two steroids when he won the MVP playing for Texas in 2003. That was before any penalties were handed out for positive tests.

Just today, Alex Rodriguez admitted to having used performance enhancing drugs back when he was with the Texas Rangers. While this actually led to most wondering if he really is as talented as the world believes, his fellow New York Yankees offer their support. A-Rod has clearly stated that he had not used steroids while with the Yankees.

From The New York Times:

“We take him at his word that he was,” the Yankees said. “Although we are disappointed in the mistake he spoke to today, we realize that Alex, like all of us, is a human being not immune to fault.”

By not having individuals respond to Rodriguez’s steroid admission, the Yankees were letting Rodriguez tell his own story and letting him absorb whatever criticism follows. The Yankees, who have had a litany of players linked to performance-enhancing drugs, can always say that Rodriguez’s admitted usage occurred while he was with the Rangers.
