New testing kit to test steroid levels launched in Germany

By admin | Sep 3, 2009

Child Health System (CHS) Steroid Profiling Kit and Data Suite Software, a new diagnostic tool developed by PerkinElmer Inc., was recently launched at the 18th Annual International Mass Spectrometry Consortium Meeting held in Bremen, Germany.

It is the first diagnostic tool to measure 10 different steroids at the same time, in children as well as in adults. It is also the first measurement kit designed for liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

The kit was developed as a diagnostic tool for endocrine disorders and hormonal imbalances in children, even in newborn.

Hospitals and various diagnostic clinics are currently using MS/MS because of its sensitivity and accurateness.

Since it has the capability to measure different steroids simultaneously, patients and doctors do not have to wait long enough to get the results. Patients do not need undergo additional blood extractions before a result can be obtained.

The CHS kit could greatly aid physicians in accurately diagnosing diseases affecting the adrenal glands, ovaries, testes and placenta. The Data Suite Software that comes with the kit, on the other hand, helps laboratory researchers in evaluating and analyzing data obtained.

The CHS kit with the software will be available this fall in countries outside the United States.
