Darryl Strawberry admitted that he would have injected himself with steroids back in the 80s if he had been given the opportunity. Wearing his uniform, he was the guest instructor at the Mets practice.
He didn’t blame Rodriguez at all for taking the prohibited performance enhancing drugs. Anyone who was under tremendous pressure and stress would have done the same if he had not been too old when the drugs circulated in the Major League.
Being in a popular sport, like baseball, can be very stressful for superstars like Rodriguez. 42 year old Strawberry said they were very competitive and driven. Fans, coaches, trainers and team managers expect them to win. Losing a game can jeopardize their career. What people fail to see, however, on top of playing to win the players also have to manage their private lives.
Strawberry also reacted over the fact that Alex was singled out of the team for using steroids. Obviously he was not the only one using them. It so happened that there was a breach in the confidentiality of the drug testing results and the athlete was put on the spot.

“I love Alex and respect himand I’m glad Alex was man enough to stand up and tell the truth about it,” Strawberry said. “But I have a hard time with the union when one player out of 104 players’ names comes out and it’s Alex Rodriguez - on testing that was done that was supposed to be confidential.
“Obviously, somebody had it out for him, and it’s not fair. If you’re going to name one, why don’t you name all of them. That’s the problem I have with this whole situation. They have put Alex in a situation where it’s him alone against the world. That’s not fair. It’s unfortunate, but that’s what happens when you play in New York.”
Darryl’s advice to Rodriguez “If a guy could fall and get up, dust himself off and help somebody else, then he’s really done what he’s taught to do, because it’s not about him.”
